SMSG = Saturday Morning Scooter Gang

In our effort to get the word out about how great scooters are, we've decided to create the "Saturday Morning Scooter Gang". Jonathan, my mom and I meet up and ride our scooters around Temecula to go get some breakfast at a cafe or coffee shop.

Today we ended up at the California Bagel Bakery.

Talk about really compact parking, 3 scooters in a spot.

Of course it never fails when you're out and about, people ask us about our scooters and we caught a few people checking them out while we were eating our breakfast outside.

You know...three people usually can fit in one car, and one car takes one parking spot too.

Does that count as "compact parking"?

"Compact parking" is actually based on the size of the car. A compact car typically being defined as a small economy car.

And while three people could fit in one car, most people, at least in California, drive around cars with 5+ seats and only themselves in it. Not quite as efficient as a scooter (1 person, 1 seat).

But your statement still doesn't eliminate those who do drive a compact car and fill (most of) the seats for a recreational drive to the bagel house...

But what of the fact that driving a scooter means, 1 person, 1 seat, but also 1 motor per person. Does driving three different motors all burning gasoline (even at 60mpg each), including the risk of personal safety, increase efficiancy over 1 economy car, 1 25mpg motor, and 4 seats (with crash safety technologies, as you state, there are huge California cars that you must share the road with)?

The idea of a scooter or motorcycle resides more in the recreational side of the arguement, not so much in the "pragmatic" economical ideals that you imply.

You do look cute with your helmet though...

Haha wow, you're wayyyy to serious to be arguing over the internet. Perhaps you should go offline and join a debate team Mr. "Pragmatic".

For the record, I could care less about the efficiency of scooters vs cars nor do I claim to be part of any "gang."

I bought a scooter to have fun and to put less miles on my car, as most (95%) of my driving is in town.

I'm always down for a ride, no matter where it goes, for me its about having fun and wouldn't recommend getting a scooter based on "efficiency" alone.

I don't think efficiency is a good enough reason to sacrifice safety, because it is still very dangerous to be on a motorcycle or scooter. But having fun and getting outside is.
